Taking the NCCPT Exam 

Quick Answer: The NCCPT (National Council for Certified Personal Trainers) exams are optional exams for students who are seeking the NCCA (National Commission for Certifying Agencies) accreditation.

Time & Cost Information

  • Exam time frame: 2 hours (no breaks)
  • NCCPT Exam Voucher cost: May have been included in your enrollment package
  • Exam cost: $79 proctoring fee required when scheduling. Extension and retake fees are available at an additional cost

NCCPT Exam vs. ISSA Exam: The ISSA certification exam is open-book, non-proctored, and not NCCA-accredited, while the NCCPT exam is NCCA-accredited, closed-book, proctored, and timed at 2 hours with 140 multiple-choice questions.

Step-by-Step Instructions for scheduling your NCCPT exam:

  1. Login to your student portal
  2. Under “Certification Courses”, select “Optional NCCPT Exams”
  3. Select the NCCPT-CPT Exam
  4. Review each section to ensure you have all the resources needed
  5. Click “Register” on the left-side column
  6. Follow the steps to request an eligibility code (codes are valid for 90 days)
  7. Underneath the eligibility code will be two links to schedule your exam through Prometric.
  8. Select a testing method—either remote or at a Prometric testing center
  9. Follow the prompts from Prometric to pay $79 fee and complete scheduling
  10. You'll receive an email from Prometric with your appointment confirmation and receipt. Be sure to save your confirmation number–you’ll need it for your exam 

Important reminders:

  • A valid signed, government photo ID and valid CPR certificate is required to sit for the NCCPT exam. The CPR certificate is not acceptable in digital format.

Frequently Asked Questions 

Q: My NCCPT exam expired, can I get an extension?

A: Students can receive a free 6 month extension after their course expiration date. If more time is needed, they are able to purchase an additional 6 months for $99. After that, re-enrollment is required. To obtain an extension, contact support@nccpt.com.

Q: I failed my NCCPT exam, how can I retake it?

A: A $99 retake fee is required, along with the additional $79 proctoring fee. Please note that waiting periods will apply.
