Neither ISSA, nor its competitors are directly accredited. The National Commission of Certifying Agencies (NCCA), the top accrediting body in the field of Personal Training and Fitness, does not accredit organizations; rather, they accredit certifications these organizations offer.
Through ISSA’s subsidiary, the National Council for Certified Personal Trainers (NCCPT), individuals can purchase the NCCA-accredited Certified Personal Training Certification exam [https://nccpt.issaonline.com/]. NCCPT was acquired by ISSA in July 2020 and is guided by a separate board of directors. The NCCPT-CPT exam is included with the ISSA Certified Personal Training (CPT) course. While the ISSA CPT exam is an open-book exam, the NCCPT-CPT exam is a closed book, closed notes and proctored exam.

In addition to seeking accreditation, many organizations will form partnerships with respected organizations that establish industry standards. ISSA is an affiliate of NBFE (National Board of Fitness Examiners) and Health and Fitness Association (formerly known as IHRSA).
